Why in the long run exists

Most of us want to look after our health. The difficulty is rarely motivation — it is clarity. What does the evidence actually show. What is worth doing. What is noise. And how do you apply any of it to a life that is already full.

Those are not simple questions. But they are answerable — if information is translated honestly, practically and without an agenda.

The Origin

In The Long Run was founded at the intersection of two kinds of experience — academic and applied, research and leadership, evidence and lived experience.

The academic foundation spans over twenty years in higher education — published research, teaching and applied practice in exercise science, strength and resistance training, and nutrition for health and performance. That work has included direct practice with athletes, research collaborations, organisational consulting and product development as well as education. A career built on understanding how the human body adapts, performs and sustains itself across the demands of a full and active life.

Alongside it runs a parallel thread — working in senior leadership roles within complex organisations, managing teams and carrying institutional responsibility. That experience produced a different and equally important kind of knowledge. A first-hand understanding of how demanding work and modern working environments challenge health and wellbeing — and how rarely the people navigating those demands have access honest, practical, evidence-based tools to help them to do so sustainably.

That gap — between what the evidence shows and what most people do — is what motivated In The Long Run. Not as an academic exercise. As a genuine conviction, developed through observation, experience and a desire to share what the evidence actually shows with anyone who wants to hear it.

What we believe

We believe that looking after your health is one of the most valuable long-term investments you can make — in your work, your relationships and your life. Not a six-week programme. Not a transformation. A sustainable, compounding commitment to staying physically well, mentally resilient and functionally capable across everything life demands of you.

In The Long Run brings together the science of exercise, nutrition, wellness, and human performance with work and organisational wellbeing — translated honestly, applied practically, and shared without conflicts of interest, unfounded claims or quick fixes.

That is the long run. We are glad you are in it.
